Last Chef Standing Comes To Key West Florida

Summary: As part of the internationally famous Key West Food & Wine Festival Last Chef Standing gives celebrity chefs the chance to show their skills while raising money for charity.

January 19 2015 Key West FL-Key West Florida is known for more than just beautiful sunsets laid back musicians and frozen drinks. Home to some of the most widely recognized restaurants in the country such as the award-winning Roof Top Café chefs from around the world make this island paradise their home. Every January this culinary side to the island is showcased in the popular Key West Food & Wine Festival. Now in its sixth year it returns with one of the most popular features -  the Last Chef Standing competition.

“We started doing this as part of the festival a few years ago and immediately people raved about how exciting it was to watch and be a part of it” said Brad Jackson one of the many volunteers who work tirelessly each year to bring the festival to life this year running January 27th through February 1st. “People are naturally familiar with the concept from watching the show and getting the chance to see some of the top chefs from Key West restaurants out from behind the kitchen walls and in the spotlight is a special bonus.”

Another special bonus is that this event serves as a fundraiser for the Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice care of Key West. The VNA/Hospice helps thousands of people each year get the care they otherwise would not be able to afford and exists primarily thanks to the generosity of such events like the Key West Food & Wine Festival.

“The motto down here is ‘One Human Family’” Jackson said “and in everything we try to do in Key West from running a marathon to strolling on a bar crawl we try to make sure we help those around us as well. It’s great to see that additional level of support from the thousands of people who return each year to take part in the festival.”

Jackson warned that with most of the events held during the festival week space is limited so tickets are going quickly. Previous year’s Last Chef Standing events have sold out in advance and he said they have no reason to believe this year will be any different.
