(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Forty year old Filipino expatriate Dr Michael Theodore L Pias who was the only person selected from the region for the Mars One mission has failed to make it to the next round.
Dr Pias was the only one selected from Oman of the initial 202586 applicants for the campaign. As many as 100 candidates - 50 men and 50 women - have been selected from a pool of 660 candidates following personal online interviews with Norbert Kraft MD chief medical officer. The candidates were judged on their understanding of the risks involved team spirit and their motivation to be part of this expedition.
Dr Pias told Muscat Daily 'To be honest I have mixed feelings about all this. There is some relief and some regret. It was difficult seeing myself leaving everything I cared about and follow my dreams of exploration. But it is still a dream. I wish now that those remaining can carry my dreams with them.'
In December 2013 Mars One announced the selection of 1058 candidates from a pool of over 202586 applicants. The Mars One Project has also stated that candidates who were not selected will have a chance to reapply in a new round that will open this year.
