Saudi Arabia welcomes UNSC resolution on halting terrorism financing


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Saudi Arabia's Cabinet welcomed on Monday the UN Security Council resolution calling for drying up the sources of financing for terrorism and tightening grip on parts under the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) control.

In a statement carried by Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Cabinet's session, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in Riyadh on Monday afternoon, reiterated that the kingdom was among countries that called for combating terrorism and criminalizing its supporters.

The Cabinet strongly condemned the killing of Egyptian hostages in Libya by the ISIL militants, describing this move as a "criminal act." It referred to efforts of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its decisions issued in its extraordinary meeting in Riyadh last Saturday on the situation in Yemen.

The Cabinet renewed its absolute condemnation and rejection of the "Houthi coup" and all its consequences, and attempts to impose a fait accompli by force.

It also stressed the importance of supporting the efforts of all Yemeni rials that seek by peaceful means to resume the political process according to the reference of the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outputs of Yemeni national dialogue. The UN Security Council adopted unanimously resolution 2201, rejecting all acts of violence in Yemen to achieve political goals, and urging the concerned parties to refrain from provocation and all unilateral actions to undermine the "political transition."
