Jordan, Palestinian discuss tourism cooperation

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Labour and Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nidal Qatamin and Palestinian Minister of Tourism Rola Ma'ayah, on Monday discussed tourism cooperation between Jordan and Palestine, especially in Islamic and Christian religious tourism.

The meeting tackled ways to boost the relationship with Palestine in the field of tourism in general with a focus on religious, environmental and medical tourism, and that Jordan could become a gateway for Palestine.

Qatamin said that joint tourist programs in the field of religious tourism are being set up to attract pilgrims from all countries, especially Malaysia and Indonesia, as well as environmental and therapeutic tourism in coordination with the Ministry of Awqaf.

He stressed the importance of activating tourist aspects, religious ones in particular, to attract tourists from around the globe, especially from Asia, through joint efforts of the ministries of tourism in Jordan and Palestine in an integrated manner.

He called upon interested agencies like travel and tourism stakeholders to contribute in promoting this cooperation through programs that revive this path and activate its role.

Maayah praised Jordan's role in stimulating and activating Palestinian tourism, pointing out that her ministry has a plan of action in Palestine based on tourism products that has to do with the development of archaeological and religious tourist sites, since Palestine contains distinct sites and landmarks.

She said the biggest challenge is to create integrated tourist paths, including different programs and religious, environmental, cultural and rural tourism. It was necessary to benefit from the experiences of others and invest components and elements of success in Palestine to overcome obstacles and challenges, Maayah concluded.
