AL's extraordinary meeting postponed upon Yemen request, officials say

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The Arab League Secretariat General decided to postpone to a further date its extraordinary meeting at the level of foreign ministers previously scheduled for Cairo on Wednesday.
In a statement, Arab League's Deputy Secretary General Ahmed bin Hali said the postponement came upon Yemen's request as the meeting was designed to discuss the situation in Yemen. He added that a number of foreign ministers who would not be able to attend Wednesday's meeting because they want to meet U.S. President Barack Obama's call to convene a summit in Washington to discuss the issue of terrorism on Thursday, also expressed keenness to attend the postponed meeting sometime later.
Meanwhile, the Arab permanent representatives will hold a consultative meeting, under the chairmanship of Mauritania, at the same time of the shelved meeting to discuss the developments in Yemen and set a date for the forthcoming foreign ministers level meeting.
Dr. Nabil Al-Arabi, Secretary General of the Arab League, will head for Washington tomorrow to attend the Washington summit meeting, ambassador Hali said.
