CEO Gives Congress "A Deadly Wandering"

Tech Company CEO John Fischer and long-time friend Vince Roderick will be in DC this week to hand deliver signed copies of Matt Richtel’s book “A Deadly Wandering” to all 535 members of Congress. The book is based on the Reggie Shaw story. In case that does not ring a bell it’s a real life tragedy of a young man who made a life altering mistake. A mistake tens of thousands of high school kids business people and soccer moms make every day. Reggie sent a text while driving.  A text that ended with two fatalities. Fatalities of two prominent scientists in Logan Utah. It opened the flood gates exposing the real dangers of texting behind the wheel. The book carefully details the lengthy two and a half year court case and how it completely divided a small Utah community. For many states the case findings served as a springboard for the adoption of anti-texting laws.

The book goes hand in hand with new constitutionally based protocol technology Fischer’s company Try Safety First. Inc. has been developing. The drive mode protocol provides an optional tool for each state to automate the enforcement of its very own texting laws geared to newly licensed school bus and commercial drivers. In an effort to get a serious look and real consideration with his company’s technology Fischer (also a CPA) has developed a unique business model where the carriers profit significantly more than any possible loss from less texting when behind the wheel. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

The biggest challenge for Fischer is not the development of the technology but that a congressional bill must be passed for the protocol technology to be properly implemented. Elaborating on the book Fischer says “Richtel’s detailed depiction of the scientific studies of University of Utah’s Dr. David Strayer UCSF’s Dr. Adam Gazzaley University of Connecticut’s Dr. David Greenfield and Yale University’s Dr. Nicholas Christakis should compel anyone who reads it (especially Congress) to push strongly for a technological solution to end this deadly problem.”

“It’s time has come” says Fischer referring to his company’s technology. The cell phone is not just a phone anymore. Simple calling are the days of old. In addition to simply saying hello everything from texting emailing tweeting face booking online banking ebay bidding instagram posting taking selfies and watching your favorite sporting event live is taking place behind the wheel. To add insult to injury – many people freely admit to doing two or three of these activities simultaneously.

For the past several years the NTSB the NSC a handful of non-profit organizations the CTIA and the wireless providers have all been trying to tackle this terrible problem.  ATT alone has spent millions attempting to educate on the deadly dangers of texting behind the wheel. Fischer contends “That while education is very important once you examine the data and truly understand the primitive neurological high-jacking the cell phone has on our brain it becomes quite apparent technology is by far the best solution to end this serious societal problem.“

To add a personal touch to each book Fischer first travelled to Logan Utah where Reggie Shaw (young man responsible for the accident) Leila O’Dell & Jackie Furfaro (the two women who lost their husbands) and Terryl Warner (victim’s advocate and main story influencer) each signed every copy. From there Fischer took the books to Dr. David Strayer (leading neuro-scientist and foremost expert on cell phone distracted driving) for signature and ended in San Francisco where NY Time’s reporter & book author Matt Richtel also signed the books. (Richtel is also a Pulitzer Prize Winner for his NY Time’s series Driven to Distraction.)

Try Safety First Inc. is a GA based technology company that has developed a series of wireless device firmware protocols. The protocols create a unique supply chain of solutions for the following industries: Automotive Corrections Airline Education Security Medical Motion Picture/Theatre and Worship.
