Chinese FM says comprehensive nuclear agreement to benefit Iran, region


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said a comprehensive nuclear deal between Tehran and the 5+1 will benefit both the Iranian nation and the whole region.

He made the remarks here on Sunday during a joint press conference with Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The Chinese official said that nuclear negotiations were an opportunity to reach an agreement, noting his country does not welcome further expansions of negotiations.

He admitted that negotiations are facing some challenges, stressing at the same time that China rejects imposing any sanction on Iran or using military ways to solve the problem.

He noted that reaching a comprehensive nuclear agreement was the dominant approach in the ongoing talks between Iran and the 5+1.

The Chinese minister further expressed hope that the parties involved in the talks would fulfill their commitments towards their nations in a bid to accelerate a timely nuclear agreement.

Concerning bilateral cooperation, he said that the talks focused on promoting Iran-China relations, adding that the volume of mutual trade has jumped to USD 51 billion.

He expressed hope that Chinese President Xi Jinping would visit Iran at an official invitation by Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, voicing also his happiness at his visit to Tehran.

He said that Iran is a strong state in the region and considered a regional ally to China.

On his part, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran and China have had extremely detailed debates on Iran's nuclear issue, noting he and his Chinese counterpart discussed bilateral relations, international topics, nuclear issue and ways to enhance mutual relations.

The Chinese foreign minister arrived in Tehran earlier on Saturday on his first visit to the country to confer with senior Iranian officials on expansion of mutual relations and regional and global issues.
