Italy closes down Tripoli embassy, evacuates nat'ls


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Italian Foreign Ministry announced Sunday the closure of its embassy in Tripoli and the evacuation of its nationals from Libya amid the mounting turmoil in the country.

The embassy suspended its activities as of this morning and evacuated its personnel alongside with other nationals aboard a commercial ship under the protection of the Italian Nary and Air Force, the ministry said in a statement.

The Ministry reiterated the call, it issued two days ago, for all Italians in Libya to leave as soon as possible, reaffirming commitment of the government to provide all necessary logistic support to them.

On Friday Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said his country is ready to take part in an international military action against Islamic State (ISIL) militants in Libya who took over the northern city of Sirte.
