Prime Minister patronizes Veterans Day
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Abdullah Ensour, on Sunday, patronized a ceremony held by the Economic and Social Association of Retired Servicemen and Veterans (ESARSV) marking the Veterans Day.
Ensour said: "On this day, we pay tribute to the country's martyrs since the founder, King Abdullah I, and Muath Kasasbeh, as Abdullah I was not our first martyr nor Kasasbeh will be the last." The prime minister said retired servicemen and women are the heroes who defended Jordan for decades in this turbulent region.
Ensour said His Majesty King Abdullah II is spearheading efforts to support the Palestinian cause and defend just pan-Arab issues and is tirelessly working to highlight the true image of Islam.
He said everyone is required to standup and defend Islam against all attempts aimed at tarnishing its bright image.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of State and Chairman of the Supreme Council of ESARSV, Salameh Neimat, Royal Court Secretary-General, Chairman of the follow up Committee on Royal Initiatives, Yusuf al-Issawi, and a large crowd of military retirees.
In 2012 and upon a royal order, the government designated February 15 as national Veterans Day in recognition of the services of retired military personnel.
