Qatar- QC allocates QR22m for Syria refugees


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) has allocated QR22m for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

The announcement was made during the third conference for the Study of Syrian Refugees' Situation in Lebanon in Istanbul on February 5-7.

The forum was organised by Federation of Relief and Development Organisations in Lebanon and sponsored by QC, in cooperation with Turkish IHH Association.

More than 200 representatives of over 60 Arab and international organisations, including Organization of Islamic Cooperation, OCHA and Oxfam, attended.

They were from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Qatar, Britain, France, Australia, Brazil, Sudan, Turkey, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and Libya.

The announcement was made by Yusuf Ahmed Al Kuwari, CEO, QC, during the opening session of the conference.

Al Kuwari said QC would donate $4m (about QR15m) in support of projects of Federation of Relief and Development Organisations in Lebanon, with another $2m (over QR7m) to promote partnership and cooperation with any organisation willing to work in cooperation with QC.

Al Kuwari said QC renewed its commitment to continue to provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people in line with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) naming it the first non-governmental organisation in terms of the volume of aid to the Syrian people during 2012, 2013 and 2014, with QR200m spending on shelter, health, food, water and sanitation, education and other projects.

Turkish IHH Association President, Bulent Yildirim, reiterated the right of refugees to live in a comfortable and safe environment and said the refugees will not forgive the world that has failed them. He stressed that all obstacles hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid and services to the beneficiaries should be overcome.
