Supervisor held for stealing items worth over Dh100,000 in Western Region

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Abu Dhabi Police arrested a workers' supervisor, an Arab national, on suspicion of stealing gold jewellery from three houses located near the construction site where he was working in the Western Region in Abu Dhabi.

The Western Region Police Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police retrieved some of the stolen items which included gold jewellery and electronics worth more than Dh100,000.

Colonel Ojeil Ali Abdullah Al Junaibi, Director of the Western Region Police Directorate, said that they had recently received several complaints of a number of thefts from houses in the area. Preliminary investigation at the crime scenes indicated that the culprit took advantage of the homeowners' absence to break into the houses and cart off their valuables. He used the same method in all his break-ins.

Colonel Al Junaibi said: "A team was formed to further investigate the details of the thefts. The team carried out a well-thought plan that was established based on the results of the evidence gathered at the crime scenes."

He added that as a part of the security plan, investigators zeroed in on a man identified as A.A.M, 33, and arrested him. During a search of his residence and workplace, the police found and confiscated some of the stolen items that were found hidden in secret compartments. During interrogation, the man confessed to planning and carrying out the thefts during his break from work, taking advantage of the quiet area and the absence of pedestrians.

Colonel Al Junaibi urged the public to get more involved in the efforts exerted to ensure their security and in maintaining the safety of their money and property, by placing them in safe places in their absence, and taking the necessary precautions.

He said that despite the multitude of awareness campaigns carried out by the police to protect houses against thefts, some people tend to disregard the preventive measures. He urged homeowners to be cautious and to implement preventive measures to avoid thefts.
