Beware of gang who halves your traffic fines and bills

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police have referred an Arab man to the Dubai Public Prosecution for allegedly soliciting the services of a gang which pays traffic fines and electricity bills using forged credit cards. The police have warned residents against dealing with the gang, which is based in a Gulf country.

Colonel Saeed Al Ayali, Director of the Rashidiya police station, said the criminal practice was discovered after an Emirati lodged a police complaint claiming someone had paid traffic fines for a car he did not own.

The owner of the said car was contacted, who revealed that he met some people via social networking sites who claimed they could settle traffic fines and other bills for half the amount.

The owner told the police that he sent Dh800 to the gang for the settlement of a Dh1,600 fine. The owner claimed he did not know the payment was done illegally.

The person was made an accused in the case after police investigations revealed that he became a mediator for the gang, as he referred customers to the gang for a commission fee, despite knowing that the 'service' was illegal.

The suspect reportedly confessed that he referred 15 'customers' to the gang, who transferred amounts ranging from Dh1,000 to Dh10,000 for violations that attracted fines worth double these amounts.

Al Ayali said the Dubai Police have informed the authorities concerned in the Arab country to track down and arrest the gang involved in the crime. The Dubai Police, he said, have submitted a proposal to the UAE's Central Bank to find preventive solutions for such crimes.

He said banks need to review the monthly statements of accounts of bank customers and report amounts paid without the knowledge of customers or from other destinations.
