(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatargas has announced its support of Qatar Cycling Centre (Qatar cyclists) as gold sponsor in the form of financial sponsorship of their year-round activities.
Qatargas made the announcement on National Sport Day, reiterating its commitment to support sports as part of its corporate social responsibility and in line with its strategy of supporting the development of sports like cycling.
The strategy aims to support the development and promotion of sports and attract youngsters to engage in them, promoting a healthy lifestyle and contributing to achieving the human development goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Officially established last year, the centre was set up by a group of young Qataris who shared a passion for cycling. They eventually grew to become the only officially recognised cycling team in Qatar, affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
It aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and help create a healthy generation capable of contributing to Qatar's development.
Membership is open to anyone interested in participating with the cycling community to increase awareness about cycling and promote a healthy and fit society.
The centre offers facilities and activities, including an indoor training facility, workshops, monthly rides on long routes, weekly rides within the city limits, regular races and participation in charity cycling events in Europe and the rest of world.
It also organises a public activity every month where people can get to know about its activities.
Upcoming events include Rowais to Doha; Fun Ride on the Pearl-Qatar; and mountain bike races. Dates will be announced soon.
