GCC Calls for Security Council Action in Yemen


(MENAFN- QNA) GCC Foreign Ministers called Saturday on the UN Security Council and the international community to take action in accordance with chapter seven of the United Nations Charter and reject the "constitutional declaration" issued recently in Yemen.

Chapter VII of the UN Charter details the Security Council powers in maintaining peace in member countries. According to the chapter, the Security Council has the right to take military and non-military action if it feels a breach to peace has taken place in a particular country.

The GCC Foreign Ministers released a statement after their extraordinary meeting today in Riyadh. In it, they stressed their rejection of unilateral moves made by the Houthi group in Yemen. The ministers stressed on the importance of taking urgent actions to ensure safety and health of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and Prime Minister Khalid Bahah, ministers and officials and release them.

The GCC ministers also stressed its support to the legitimate power in Yemen, represented in President Hadi and Prime Minister Bahah, and the GCC's condemnation to Houthi coup. (MORE)
