King, Czech president hold talks, discuss bilateral relations


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II and Czech President Milos Zeman, on Wednesday, held talks focused on developing bilateral relations and ways to support cooperation in political and economic fields, as well as the latest developments in the region.

During a meeting, attended by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah and Mrs Ivana Zemanova, the wife of the Czech President, who is visiting Jordan for the first time since assuming the presidency, His Majesty said: "Long history and strong relationship combine our two countries, anchored by His Majesty the late King Hussein, and I know that it's been a while since my recent visit to your country, and I highly appreciate your kind invitation to visit the Czech Republic again." His Majesty said: "Our meeting today, and the Jordanian Czech Economic Business Forum, held yesterday, the memoranda of understanding that were signed, all these represent the steps that will bring together our two countries. Many of us see the challenges facing Jordan and the region, and that the relationship with your country and with Europe will enable us to address these challenges and overcome them with (a sense of) unity." The King said the fight against terrorism is an international challenge that "brings us together".

On his part, the Czech President offered his deepest condolences and sympathy over the martyrdom of pilot Muath Kasasbeh and said the incident is an evidence on the brutality of those who falsely claim that they are an Islamic State.

His Majesty the King expressed the hope that the visit of the Czech President would consolidate relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries in economy, health, tourism, energy and defense.

The King underlined the need to expand the horizons of cooperation between the two countries through new opportunities to establish and support projects in various fields, and also expand strategic partnership.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of supporting regional and international parties in the efforts to combat terrorism and terrorist gangs, which seek to undermine the security and stability in the region and the world.

His Majesty pointed out that Jordan is fighting an ongoing war, in cooperation with the participating countries in the international coalition against the terror gang Daesh, which is trying to tarnish the image of Islam.

The King and the Czech President's talks that touched on efforts to achieve peace in the region.

On Syria, His Majesty the King renewed Jordan's call for reaching a comprehensive political solution to the crisis to end the suffering of the Syrian people and preserve Syria's territorial unity. The King highlighted burdens being borne by the Kingdom as a result of hosting the largest number of Syrian refugees, and providing them humanitarian services and relief.

The Czech President emphasized his country's desire to expand the horizons of investment and economic cooperation with Jordan, pointing to the need for both countries to benefit from the common experience in various fields. His Majesty King Abdullah II decorated the Czech President with The Order of al-Hussein bin Ali, on the occasion of his first visit to the Kingdom, and in recognition of his commitment to developing relations between the two countries.

In recognition of the courage and wisdom of His Majesty, the Czech President decorated His Majesty the King with The Order of the White Lion, the highest honor granted by the Czech Republic and awarded for the first time in the history of the Czech Republic to a world leader.
