(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai rolled out the red carpet for the world premiere of Roy today. Arjun Rampal and Jacqueline Fernandez enjoyed the spotlight, and were joined by debutante film director, Vikramjit Singh. The first screening of this suspense thriller was held last night at Novo Cinemas Cineplex near Wafi City. The pair walked the red carpet at an invite-only screening, organized by Dream Advertising and Ministry of Events. "I am from Bahrain and Dubai is a second home for me. My dad is here for the premiere, he flew down from Bahrain. I am quite excited for the screening" said Jacqueline at the press meet.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, CMD of T-Series, Roy revolves around a filmmaker (Rampal) who's inspired by a thief Roy's (Ranbir Kapoor) adventures. Twist in the story comes when Rampal's girlfriend (Fernandez) enters the scene. Bhushan explained why Dubai is the hot spot for Bollywood, "Dubai is a huge market for our industry. Practically all Bollywood films are being showcased in Dubai. Hardly any premiere happens in Mumbai these days, Dubai is the place for premieres right now. It's a platform that is connected to the world and helps us in a major way."
Arjun Rampal said Roy is one of the most restless films that he has done, "Uniqueness of the film attracted me towards it, especially the journey of all characters. I had a long year in 2012 with four back to back releases. I want to do different films and very few films are being produced on a scale that Roy is, hence there was a long gap from my last release."
"Both Ranbir and Arjun were extremely supportive towards me. What I learnt about them through film making is that they are both very prepared. Ranbir is a very selfish actor, hence he is extremely prepared before he comes on set and Arjun is very instinctive' said Vikramjit while talking about directing Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in his first film.
Ranbir Kapoor € who plays an extended cameo in the film and the title role, did not attend the grand premiere of the film. Rampal and Fernandez attended a press meet before the world premiere followed by an after party at Armani Prive late night. Film releases across the UAE cinemas tomorrow.
