S. Korea's FDI contracts for 3rd year in 2014

(MENAFN) Direct foreign investment into South Korea shrank for the third consecutive year in 2014 on a drop in manufacturing-related commitments, Yonhap News reported.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said that foreign direct investment (FDI) dipped 1.5 percent last year, reaching USD35.07 billion from USD35.59 billion recorded in 2013.

The decline is less than the 13.3 percent plunge for 2012 and 10.2 percent drop in 2013. The country's FDI pledge peaked in 2011 when the total reached USD45.74 billion from USD34.44 billion in 2010.

The latest report showed FDI in the manufacturing sector backtracking 12.9 percent to USD8.74 billion from USD10.04 billion in the previous year. The drop was mostly linked to displays and semiconductors.
