Egypt condemns assassination of Somali MP


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt condemned Wednesday the assassination of Somali parliament member Abdullah Qayad Tuesday morning.

Qayad was killed in a drive-by shooting in the Somali capital Mogadishu by Islamists militants belonging to the radical Al-Shabab movement, BBC reported.

A spokesman for Al-Shabab said the group had carried out the attack and would target other MPs, according to the BBC.

Qayad was heading to attend the parliament session to vote on approving a new cabinet when the militants shot him.

Egypt's foreign ministry spokesman Badr Abdelatty expressed the need for collaboration from the international society against the "abhorrent terrorism phenomenon", and to fight all terrorist organisations that target stability and development around the world, according to the ministry's statement.
