(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Upbeat over the grand success in the Delhi state assembly elections, the Assam unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday asked the people of Assam to get ready to oust the Congress and also reject the BJP in the ensuing state assembly elections scheduled for early 2016.
"The Delhi verdict has made it clear that the people can do anything provided there is a viable alternative which does not make false promises or hoodwink the people after winning elections. The 2016 Assam assembly election will be most crucial because the people are feeling choked under a long spell of Congresss misrule. We are seriously looking at providing the people that much-needed alternative," said AAP Assam unit spokesperson Manoram Gogoi here Wednesday.
Gogoi, a journalist of standing who joined AAP on the eve of Lok Sabha elections 2014 and contested unsuccessfully from Jorhat, said a number of eminent, honest and socially active persons have expressed willingness to join the party and contest the Assam assembly elections. "Many eminent and honest people have expressed their willingness to be part of Aam Aadmi Party," he said.
Hitting out at the BJP for allegedly making false promises to the people of Assam during the Lok Sabha campaign, Gogoi pointed at four such issues. "The BJP had backed the anti-dam movement in Assam before the elections. But once elected to power in the Centre it now wants to go ahead with the Lower Subansiri dam. Likewise, it (BJP) has changed stand on the Indo-Bangla land-swap deal, on expulsion of Bangladeshi infiltrators and river-linking, all of which have prompted people in Assam feel cheated," the AAP spokesperson said.
