Qatar's Nasser headlines home event

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) London Games bronze medallist Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah will lead the home challenge at Qatar Open Shotgun championship which will be contested by a host of Olympic and World champions, the organisers of the event said here yesterday.

The eight-day championship, which is hosted by Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) for the fifth successive year, will feature over 250 shooters from 33 countries competing in Double Trap, Skeet and Trap events at the $132,600 championship.

Besides Qatar's Nasser, some of the prominent shooters who are in Qatar include: Vasily Mosin of Russia, bronze medallist at the 2012 London Games in Doubel Trap, Alexey Alipov, also of Russia, Tore Brovold of Norway, Fehaid Aldeehanni of Kuwait, Francesco D Aniello of Italy, Anthony Terras of France, Erik Varga of Slovakia, Henrik Jansson of Sweden, Mikhail Leybo, Vitaly Fokeev, both of Russia, Khaled Al Mudhaf, Nikolas Mavrommatis of Greece and Jesper Hansen of Denmark.

"We have shooters from five continents taking part including, 12 Olympic champions and 15 World champions," said Abdullah Ali Al Hammadi, General Secretary of QSAA, while addressing a press conference here yesterday.

"Out of 250 shooters, 50 shooters are from Qatar, including Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah" added the Qatar official.

The championship, Al Hammadi said, will help shooters from Qatar to develop their skills.

"The competition in the championship will be very high. Competing against shooters from different countries of such high level will help shooters from Qatar to gain a lot of experience and help develop their individual skills," the QSAA official said.

The championship will be contested in both the men's and women's section and also in junior category. The Qatar event will serve as a preparation for the world's top shotgun shooters for the March 15 to 24 ISSF World Cup Shotgun to be held in Acapulco, Mexico.
