Pakistan kills 15 tribal rebels in southwest
(MENAFN- Arab News) QUETTA: Pakistani paramilitary forces on Tuesday killed 15 separatist insurgents and lost one of their own men during a gunbattle in a remote southwestern area officials said.
The clash took place at Basima some 240 km southwest of Quetta the capital of restive Baluchistan province which is rife with a tribal insurgency Taleban attacks and sectarian violence.
'At least 15 miscreants were killed during a clash with security forces' a spokesman for Frontier Corps said.
'An FC soldier was martyred and three others were wounded in the fighting' the official said.
Local intelligence and administration officials confirmed the clash and casualties.
An intelligence official said that the militants belonged to Baloch Liberation Front which has been carrying out attacks on security forces and government installations in the province bordering Iran and Afghanistan.
Baluchistan Pakistan's largest but least developed and most sparsely populated province has been racked for decades by a separatist insurgency that was revived in 2004.
The separatists believe locals do not receive a fair share of the province's energy and mineral wealth. Rights groups accuse the government of extra-judicial detentions and killing of activists.
