(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) As Iran celebrates its 36th National Day on Wednesday marking victory of the Islamic revolution its Ambassador to Oman has said that relations with the sultanate are witnessing unprecedented developments.
H E Ali Akbar Sibeveih at a press conference on Tuesday said that Iran's National Day celebrations are held across the world and also by its diplomatic missions. He added that since the revolution new developments in economic cultural and political spheres have affected the lives of Iranian community members positively.
On Iran's foreign policy H E Sibeveih said that it is based on the promotion of peace friendship comprehensive cooperation and support to stability and security in the world especially in the region.
"Iran's foreign policy has always worked to enhance mutual respect and relations with all countries of the world and is based on justice and confidence-building and peaceful co-existence. Iran believes that living in peace stability and security is the legitimate right of everyone."
An official communique issued by the Iranian Embassy in Muscat said that intimidation practiced by major forces of the world against Iran is an attempt to mislead public opinion. "Tehran has always extended a hand of brotherhood and love to its neighbours and confirmed that the nuclear development and achievements of the military is to serve the countries of the region."
The Ambassador said the mutual visits by Iran's President Dr Hassan Rouhani and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to each other's countries have taken the cooperation between the two countries to new heights.
Bilateral trade between the two countries in the last two years has reached US$1bn compared to about US$200mn previously. Iranian investment in the sultanate especially in Sohar and Duqm industrial zones is close to about US$4bn.
'Economic sanctions being lifted gradually'
H E Ali Akbar Sibeveih has said that most of economic sanctions on the country are gradually being lifted which will help business between Oman and Iran grow tremendously. The Ambassador was replying to a query by Muscat Daily on the barriers that have led to delay in new business operations like a ferry link between Khasab and Iran and a direct shipping line with Sohar Port. The National Ferries Company which has plans to launch service between Khasab and Iran is yet to get insurance cover for the service. "The sanctions are gradually being lifted and the ferry and shipping service will start soon. Iranian companies are ready to provide insurance cover for the companies seeking new business in the country" H E Sibeveih said.
