It is expected that gum will see moderate improvement in terms of its value growth rate in 2014 compared with 2013 and the overall review period performance thanks to signs of economic recovery in the Czech Republic. Nevertheless it is expected that the consumption of gum will continue to decline slightly in 2014 as the recovery will be gradual and consumer demand will revive only slowly. As a result gum will see a volume decrease of 1% in 2014. Value sales of gum are expected to rise by 1% driven by unit price increases in 2014.

Competitive Landscape

Gum is expected to remain fairly concentrated in 2014 with two strong multinational players namely Wrigley sro and Perfetti Van Melle Czech Republic sro set to account for a combined value share of 93%.

Industry Prospects

It is expected that gum will see growth of 7% in volume terms and 9% in value terms at constant 2014 prices over the forecast period. The forecast period growth rates will represent a better performance than that recorded for the review period as the consumption of gum products is expected to grow in tandem with improving economic conditions and thus rising disposable incomes among Czechs. In addition volume sales will be supported by the rising popularity of gum among Czechs while value sales will benefit from rising unit prices over the forecast period.
