Pervert accused of groping disabled girl in Dubai

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 29-year-old worker, who allegedly groped a 10-year-old physically challenged girl in a supermarket and later exposed himself to her, has been charged with molestation.

In the Dubai Court of First Instance on Monday, the Sri Lankan accused was also been charged with breaching a minor's modesty.

The incident was reported from the English cluster in the International City on August 31 last year.

The girl, a Syrian, said in the investigation that her father dropped her and her twin sister at the supermarket around 9pm and left for work. "My sister was pushing my (wheel) chair and picking up the stuff. A man (the accused) was walking near us."

The girl said the man stretched his hand and touched her. She screamed, following which he walked away. The girls went back to their building and saw the man in the lift. "He stopped the lift on the second floor, while we went to the third."

However, as the lift's doors opened on their floor, the girl saw the accused there. "My sister was busy taking the groceries inside and I pushed my wheelchair by myself."

The girl said the accused unzipped his pants and exposed himself. She moved away to avoid looking at the accused's act. After he fled the spot, she told her mother about the perverted act.

The girl's father, a 35-year-old cook, said his wife informed him about the incident on the phone shortly after he left his daughters at the supermarket.

"When I reached the place, the police were already there. I looked for the suspect, who, according to my daughter, had a tattoo on his shoulder, but could not find him."

The next day, the victim and her father spotted the suspect on the second floor of their building. The father immediately caught and restrained the suspect, even as the latter ranted apologies for his act, before handing him over to the police.
