Qatar Amir to visit Japan from Feb. 19

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani will pay an official visit to Japan from Feb. 19, the Japanese Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday.

During his three-day visit, the Amir will meet with Emperor Akihito and hold talks with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the ministry said in a press release.

Japan sincerely welcomes his visit, which will further strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries, it added. It will be the first visit to Japan by the Qatari Amir since his assumption to power in June 2013.

Abe visited Doha in August 2013, when he expressed his intention that Japan would play more politically active roles for the stability in the Middle East, with both sides committing to more exchanges between defense authorities for the stability in the region, according to the ministry.

At the 2013 summit, Abe and the Amir also agreed to enhance policy consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries and newly establish security dialogues, and affirmed collaboration in various fields such as stable supply of energy by Qatar, development of oil and gas, infrastructure development, medical care, and agricultural cooperation.
