Abu Dhabi ports register remarkable growth in 2014


(MENAFN) Bulk and general cargo handled by Abu Dhabi Ports increased 37 percent annually, while container business grew 26 percent in 2014, showing higher trade and commerce and rise in projects, Khaleej Times reported.

The Khalifa Port Container Terminal, which is managed and operated by Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT), handled more than one million TEUs (twenty foot equivalent units/containers) in one year, a record for Abu Dhabi, with the total number of containers reaching 1,137,679 TEU. This equates to a 26 percent annual growth, when compared to 2013, the Abu Dhabi Ports said.

Meanwhile, the amount of bulk and general cargo handled was 12,821,584 freight tons (FT), up 37 percent annually.

The container terminal hit some significant targets as the year progressed, including 2m TEU since the beginning of commercial operations and the most containers ever handled in one month.
