Dubai foodstuffs trade grows 14 percent in 2014

(MENAFN) Dubai's trade in foodstuffs hits a 14 percent growth in the first nine months of 2014, further promoting the emirate's status as a global hub for foodstuff trading in the region. The figures were released by Dubai Customs in parallel with Gulfood 2015, a regional exhibition currently under way in Dubai, Gulf News reported.

The sector's remarkable improvement attributed to Dubai's ongoing and demographic development. The trend is also caused by a favorable business environment with exceptional logistic services and facilities, as well as efficient quality control measures on all Dubai's traded food commodities.

Dubai Customs announced a 14 percent growth in Dubai's foodstuff trading in the period from January-September 2014 to USD17.96 billion, compared to USD15.84 billion during the same period in 2013.

This growth was highlighted by an increase in imports from USD10.23 billion to USD11.70 billion, with re-exports from USD2.99 billion to USD3.53 billion, and exports from USD2.61 billion to USD2.72 billion.
