Eighteen killed in Baghdad Suicide Attack

(MENAFN- QNA) Eighteen people were killed Monday in a suicide bomb attack in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, local news service Alsumaria reported quoting police officials.

The blast, in the district of al-Kadhemiyya in northern Baghdad, injured another 38 people, the report said.

Monday's attack comes two days after a decade-long night-time curfew in the Iraqi capital was lifted.

The city has been a frequent target for bomb attacks, mostly blamed on militants including the Islamic State group which now controls much of northern and western Iraq.

According to UN figures, in January Baghdad had the highest verifiable monthly death toll of any Iraqi province, with 256 civilians killed and over 700 injured in acts of violence.
