German trade surplus hits record in 2014

(MENAFN) Data showed that Germany's trade surplus hit record high in 2014 as a fall in euro served to raise exports in December, QNA reported.

Compared to December 2013, exports from Europe's largest economy soared 3.4 percent in December 2014 after contracting by 2.2 percent in November, the statistics office (Destatis) said.

Imports fell by a surprise 0.8 percent after they rose 1.2 percent in November. The vast gap between exports and imports ensued in a trade surplus of USD24.7 billion for December.

Throughout 2014, German exports soared by 3.7 percent on-year, resulting in record foreign trade surplus of USD245.4 billion in 2014 compared with 2007 record of USD220.9 billion.
