(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Sharjah Children Biennial has unveiled the names of the winners of its 4th edition which concluded yesterday, after evaluating and selecting the winning works from among 550 artworks from 11 Arab and foreign countries, all created by children aged 6-18 years.
The winners were revealed during the closing ceremony of the Biennial held at the Collage Talent Centre in Sharjah Ladies Club, in the presence of Sheikha Nawar Al Qasimi, Public Programme and Outreach Officer at the Sharjah Art Foundation, Dr. Riyadh san loning, Consul General of Social Affairs in the Pakistani Consulate, Jassem Al Baloushi, Head of Retail Banking Group at Sharjah Islamic Bank, Reem BinKaram, Acting Director of Sharjah Children's Centres and Chairperson of Sharjah Children Biennial, Aisha Deemas, Director of Executive affairs at Sharjah Museums Department, and Emirati artist Nasser Nassrallah, Curator of the Biennial.
The closing ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Biennial's sponsors, artists, media representatives, and a large number of children.
The Biennial's jury consisted of Sheikha Hour Al Qasimi, President of Sharjah Art Foundation, and Sheikha Maisa Al Qasimi, Programmes Manager at the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, as well as Emirati artists Mohammed Kazem, Mohammed Al Qassab, and Mona Al Khaja.
The jury evaluated the artworks on the grounds of the criteria set by the Biennial management and the general theme of the 4th edition, "Questions".
The selection process represented a major challenge to the jury due to the large number of distinguished works in different disciplines.
In her keynote speech delivered during the ceremony, Reem BinKaram thanked the artists, government and private organisations and sponsors who supported and made the Biennial possible.
"The Sharjah Children Biennial, SCB, is privileged to be supported by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah and H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, who has been our constant motivation throughout." Aisha Bin Deemas lauded the quality of the artworks displayed during the Biennal and the way in which the young artists expressed their dreams, hopes and aspirations.
"Providing a platform for young artists to showcase their artistic and creative works as well as to enable them to connect with the community and promote inspiration is of great importance for us. We take pride in our ability to give this creative opportunity in collaboration with the Children's Centres in Sharjah under the umbrella of the Sharjah Children Biennial." In Collective Works, the workshop "Autobiography", supervised by artist Nasser Nasrallah, which was held at Children's Centre in Khor Fakkan, won the first award.
The second-place prize went to the "Animation Book Making" workshop, supervised by artist Tulip Hazbar at the Children's Center in Mughayder. The "Incredible Magic" Workshop, which was held at Al Khalidya Children's Centre and supervised by artist Alaa Idris, came third.
Amal Ali Dad Rahim from Khadija Elementary School in Ajman won the "My Art Option" Award.
