(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman celebrates Industry Day on February 9 of every year to commemorate the visit of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said to Rusayl Industrial Estate on February 9 1991.
Celebrating this occasion is based on the government's belief in the importance of this vital economic sector and the drive to diversify the sources of income and develop the industry to support the revenue of oil and gas.
The Industry Day is a significant event patiently awaited by the industrialists as an annual celebration to get together and meet directly with the Minister of Commerce and Industry and senior industrialists. The meeting is organised annually by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) in coordination with the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and other stakeholders interested in the industrial sector.
The meeting discusses various topics of interest to the industrial sector and is the forum for the industrialists to express their opinions identify their problems look for solutions explore the future of industry present the initiatives and ideas to develop the sector and review certain projects implemented by MCI within the five-year development plans.
Industry Day also is an occasion to inaugurate new projects and for organising Omani produce exhibitions and other events relating to the industry. This annual event creates an atmosphere of trust and constructive cooperation between the private sector and the government officials for the benefit of the industrial sector and the industrialists.
It also creates an opportunity for the ministry to identify problems and obstacles facing the sector and investors and attempt to address it and respond to the inquiries within the ministry's jurisdiction and follow up with other agencies in order to find suitable solutions for such obstacles.
