Ukraine Peace Summit Planned for Wednesday in Minsk

(MENAFN- QNA) The leaders of Germany, France, Ukraine and Russia are planning to hold a summit Wednesday on the Ukraine conflict in Minsk, Belarus.

The offices of Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande said the decision was made in a phone call on Sunday, in which the four leaders agreed to continue working on a plan aimed at implementing a new ceasefire, German News Agency (DPA) reported.

The summit in the Belarussian capital would follow a preparatory meeting of the so-called Ukraine contact group and representatives of the pro-Russian separatists from eastern Ukraine, the French and German statements said.

Merkel and Hollande have been cautious about the chances of their plan for a fresh ceasefire, which they hammered out in talks with Ukrainian President Poroshenko on Thursday and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.
