Canada's trade deficit widens to USD520m in December

(MENAFN) Data showed that Canada's trade deficit expanded in December to USD520 million as a rising in imports outpaced export growth, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

The December figure increased from a USD285 million deficit registered in November, which was revised downward from Statistics Canada's last release of trade data.

But the nation still ended the year on a high point, with higher overall trade swinging the total figure for last year from a deficit of USD5.8 billion in 2013 to a surplus of USD4.2 billion.

In December, imports of crude oil and bitumen rose after several refineries on line following routine maintenance. Imports of passenger cars and light trucks and parts also increased.
