MoCI to celebrate Omani Industry Day with special event 


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) The sultanate will celebrate Omani Industry Day on Monday. Falling on February 9 it commemorates the day His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said visited the Rusayl Industrial Estate in 1991.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is holding an event at the InterContinental Muscat which will include a workshop on challenges facing the industrial sector. The Minister of Commerce and Industry industrialists and businessmen will attend the workshop.

The meeting will also discuss the recent performance of the industrial sector the major indicators for the sector the achievement made with regard to proposals submitted at last year's meeting and the challenges that hindered implementing these proposals.

An evening exhibition has also been organised at the Oman International Exhibition Centre as part of the celebrations. The exhibition will include pavilions of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Exports Development (Ithraa) the National Records and Archives Authority (NRAA) Oman Development Bank (ODB) Al Raffd Fund and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE).

Eng Ahmed al Dheeb Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the celebration this year will include events at a number of industrial estates in collaboration with public organisations and factories in the areas. Coordination will be maintained with the Ministry of Education to organise an open day for students to visit the industrial estates. We will also work with the Ministry of Manpower to organise an open day for displaying available job opportunities at the various estates.

"The ministry has approached a number of major outlets in the sultanate to offer discounts on Omani products from February 7-12 in a bid to encourage the consumers to buy Omani products" he added.

Eng Nahla al Hamdiyah director general for industry at MoCI said the new Five-Year Plan targets increasing the contribution of manufacturing industries to GDP to 15 per cent by 2020 and to play a key role in developing Omani commodity exports.
