Passenger volumes rise at Oman's airports


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's airports are witnessing a steady growth in passenger volumes latest figures for 2014  released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) have shown.

Salalah Airport has seen a significant rise of 13 per cent in domestic and international passenger traffic compared to 2013. A 41.9 per cent rise in international passengers at this airport shows the popularity of the city as a tourist destination.

Muscat International Airport meanwhile recorded an increase of nearly five per cent according to data released by NCSI. It received over 8.7mn passengers (arrivals and departures) last year against 8.3mn in 2013.

At Salalah Airport 841970 passenger arrivals and departures were logged in 2014 up from 745372 the year before.

Giving a break-up of the figures the NCSI report says that international passengers at Muscat International Airport rose 4.6 per cent to 7.87mn whereas the growth in domestic passengers was higher at 7.4 per cent (837661). 

The growth figures for Salalah airport were a massive 41.9 per cent in terms of international passengers and 4.8 per cent for domestic passengers or 233403 and 608567 passengers respectively.

As for flight volumes Muscat International Airport saw a 1.5 per cent year-on-year growth in aircraft movement as of December 2014 including international and domestic flights the respective percentages being 1.3 and 3.

Salalah Airport on the other hand recorded a 35 per cent spike in the number of international flights and around eight per cent rise in domestic flights during the same period.
