Qatar- QC provides QR500,000 relief for displaced Yemenis

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Charity (QC) has distributed humanitarian relief worth QR500,000 ($140,000) to displaced Yemenis from two provinces.

The aid included shelter, food, medicine and medical treatment for 6,076 people.

The projects were carried out in partnership with Yemen Development Network (YDN) which took part in the distribution of tents, mattresses, blankets, winter clothing, utensils and food items.

Food baskets each containing 50kg of wheat, 25kg of flour, 4 litres of cooking oil, 10kg of sugar, 10kg of rice and 500 grams of tea were distributed to 5,000 displaced families in Hazm, Motoon, Khalq, Masloub, Higher Jouf, Salamat, Sahara, Baten, Khalifa Basha, Al Salah and Madina in the governorates of Al Jawf and Marib.

The relief efforts represent QC's humanitarian role and keenness to support the most needy in light of the fact that the Yemeni people are suffering as a result of conflict and displacement.

The displaced often lack the most basic necessities which results in a humanitarian disaster, particularly during the current winter weather which exacerbates their problems.

The aid is in addition to covering the cost of treatment for 1,500 patients and purchase and distribution of chronic disease medicines such as blood pressure and diabetes, health check-ups and drugs for other diseases commonly spread in this period such as pneumonia and diseases of the digestive system.

Some 6,076 people benefitted.

According to YDN reports, 193 families are displaced as a result of events in both provinces and 739 families have returned home.

Though the situation is stable, there is considerable fear among the population that it will explode again in the coming days as the conflicting parties are massing gunmen in preparation for battle.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Jassim Al Thani, QC General Supervisor of Projects in Yemen, has laid the foundation stone for projects on Socotra Island, including health projects covering the receipt of medical and social services at Doha Centre.

The centre will have laboratories, a section for the rehabilitation of the disabled, an eye clinic, a pharmacy for the distribution of medicines for children and a kidney dialysis section while an X-ray section will added later.
