Qatar's 'policy based on global peace through rapprochement'

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatari Ambassador in Brussels Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani says he is looking forward to the next phase that would witness further deepening of relations between Qatar, European institutions, Nato and Belgium.

Speaking at a ceremony at the residence of the Head of Qatari Mission in Brussels, Sheikh Ali hoped that Qatar's relations would be strengthened at all levels and move forward to wider levels to achieve aspirations of the Qatari people and the peoples of the European Community.

Belgian and European personalities, Nato representatives and members of diplomatic corps were present.

Sheikh Ali stressed that Qatar's policy is based on key areas, including global peace and stability through rapprochement between Doha and its regional and global surroundings to allow a study of all issues facing the region and the drawing up of a comprehensive strategy with appropriate solutions to assist the peoples of the Middle East and the rest of the world to ensure permanent peace and development.

He reiterated Qatar's rejection of terrorism in all its forms, referring to Qatar's accession to international and regional conventions and its legislations to combat terrorism, money-laundering and financing terror operations.

He said Qatar has called for an in-depth study of threats resulting from the spread of extremism and terrorism in the Middle East and a distinction between resistance and terrorism, especially that the international community has not yet agreed on the precise definition of terrorism.

Sheikh Ali highlighted Qatar's role in formal and informal humanitarian assistance which has helped alleviate the suffering of people in different areas.

"Qatar's diplomacy relies primarily on mediation in conflicts to ensure peace in areas hit by civil wars which has resulted in population displacements and mass exodus," he said.

The ambassador said Qatari diplomacy cares for humanitarian aid and assistance to areas affected by natural disasters and those resulting from wars and armed conflicts which have forced people to flee conflict zones to safer areas.

He hosted a dinner banquet attended by dignitaries, including the European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Nato Deputy Assistant Secretary-General and his assistants, members of Qatari-European Friendship Association, top representatives of the Belgian Government and members of diplomatic corps accredited to Belgium, the European Union and Nato and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
