French trade deficit narrows to USD61.9b in 2014

(MENAFN) French State Secretary for Foreign Trade said his country saw a narrowed trade deficit in 2014, amounting to around USD61.9 billion, Xinhua reported.

Compared with 2013 performance, the trade gap, for the third consecutive year, lowered by USD7 billion thanks to falling energy purchases due to decline in oil prices and warm temperatures.

France's export traditionally depends on markets of Europe and some emerging countries, and was primarily driven by the food, pharmaceutical and aerospace industries.

"These results show the resilience of French exports in an international context that remains difficult. Need to develop and find new opportunities in the most dynamic markets," the secretary said.
