Fire Bombs Kill 9, Hurt 30 in Bangladesh

(MENAFN- QNA) Attackers threw crude fire bombs at a packed bus and a moving truck in two separate incidents in Bangladesh, leaving nine people dead and 30 others injured, police said.

The attacks were the latest spasm of violence in a nationwide transportation blockade called by the opposition political party.

The bus was attacked late Friday night in the northern Gaibandha district while it was moving toward the capital amid a police escort. At least six people died and 30 were injured.

The second attack happened before dawn Saturday to a truck in the southern Barisal district. It killed the driver and two others.

Authorities blame opposition activists and hired thugs for the attacks, but the opposition denies this.

At least 63 people have died since the blockade started January 6.
