JAKARTA February 6 2015 – The economic growth of a number of areas slowed down in 2014 compared to the previous year with the weakening contribution of a number of vital supporting sectors such as investment.

The economy in Nangroe Aceh Darussalam province even made the lowest growth nationally. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Aceh recorded that the economic growth with the contribution of oil and gas sector grew by only 1.65% in 2014 or lower than 2.83% in 2013.

Meanwhile the economic growth in Aceh without the contribution of oil and gas sector slowed down to only 4.13% in 2014 from previously 4.4% in 2013.

The total gross domestic product (GDP) over the benchmark price as applied in Aceh reached IDR130.45 trillion with the gross regional domestic product (PDRB) per capita of IDR2.59 million or UD$2338.75.

At end of QIV/2014 the economy in Aceh made a contraction of 2.75% compared the third quarter of 2014. Head of BPS Aceh Hermanto said the economic condition in QIV/2014 highly affected the growth performance in 2014.

“In QIV/2014 there were many factors which brought effects such as the slow agricultural growth from the beginning of harvest period on palm while other commodities had passed the harvest period” said Hermanto Thursday (2/5/2015).

According to him the economic growth performance was worsening due to the flood and landscape in several regencies and cities. In particular with the oil and gas sectors the end of PT Arun’s contract period in October 2014 became the main factor.

“In quarter to quarter several sectors such as processing mining and agriculture industries respectively fell by 14.43% 7.8% and 7.7%. Yet annually all sectors grew except the processing and excavation mining industries” said Hermanto. Read more..
