New Tunisian Government Sworn In

(MENAFN- QNA) The new Tunisian government of Prime Minister Habib Essid was sworn in on Friday before President of the Republic Beji Caid Essebsi at Carthage Palace before taking over power from caretaker government headed by Mehdi Juma.

New Prime Minister-designate Habib Essid said the next stage will be serious as this government is the first in the second republic and due to the magnitude of the challenges it will face.

For his part, the Tunisian President denied intervention in the selection process for government members, especially that he was Leader of Nidaa Tounes (Call of Tunisia) Party, which won the presidential and legislative elections in Tunisia last year, saying "I did not intervene in the selection of the members of this government, but I think the selection was successful." Essebsi stressed the need for "cooperation and exchange of advice" between heads of the executive authority in Tunisia (the presidency of the republic and the premiership).

The government of Essid won Thursday the confidence of the People's Congress in Tunisia by 166 votes out of 217.
