Nickolay Mladenov Appointed New U.N. Mideast Envoy


(MENAFN- QNA) U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov on Thursday as his new Middle East peace envoy and personal representative to the Palestine Liberation Organization and Palestinian Authority.

Currently head of the U.N. assistance mission to Iraq, Mladenov served as Bulgarian foreign minister from 2010-13 and has held positions with international organizations such as the World Bank and the European Institute.

He succeeds Dutch diplomat Robert Serry, who has held the post since 2007.
