Brutal escalation by terror group: paper

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) A UAE paper has said that the heinous and disgusting killing of Jordan's 26-year-old pilot, Moath Al Kassasbeh, by Daesh surely represents a brutal escalation by the group, whose evil objectives have become apparent, as H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister has rightly put it.

"Condemnation has been pouring in from across the world ever since the terrorist group released a 22-minute video purporting to show the execution of the Jordanian pilot by burning him alive. This latest murder comes on the heels of Saturday's beheading by the group of a Japanese journalist," said The Gulf Today in its editorial on Thursday.

Muslim clerics have declared that such a form of killing is an abomination under Islam. Egypt's top Muslim authority, the 1,000 year old Al-Azhar University revered by Muslims around the world, also expressed deep anger over the lowly act by what it called a "Satanic, terrorist" group.

The heartless militants should know that they would have no place to hide. Jordan has already promised an "earth-shaking response" to the killing of its pilot. The international community should see to it that the perpetrators of such reprehensible acts of terrorism are brought to justice.

The members of the UN Security Council have also correctly stressed that such a crime by Daesh demonstrates that terrorism is a scourge impacting all of humanity and people from all regions and religions.

The terrorists are responsible for thousands of crimes and abuses against people from all faiths, ethnicities and nationalities, and without regard to any basic value of humanity.

All countries, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, should cooperate actively with the government of Jordan and all other relevant authorities in this regard.

Such continued acts of barbarism perpetrated by Daesh should not be allowed to intimidate the international community, but strengthen the resolve that there has to be a common effort amongst governments and institutions to counter such enemies of humanity.

"The heinous action of the terrorist groups and their counterparts represents epidemics that must be eradicated by civilised societies without delay," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
