Kuwaiti, Spanish FMs discuss bilateral relations

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah met Spain's Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo on Wednesday and discussed bilateral relations in all fields.

The visit comes amid the Golden Jubilee (50-year) celebration of diplomatic relations between both countries, which Sheikh Sabah Khaled described as "exceptional." During the talks, an invitation for King Felipe VI of Spain to visit Kuwait from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was delivered to Garcia-Margallo, the Kuwaiti deputy premier and foreign minister told reporters in Madrid.

Relations have been growing considerably in recent years, and more efforts are being put in place to give them an added boost, said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled.

Discussions also focused on regional developments, and the stance of Spain - a non-permanent Security Council member - on the huge developments in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya in addition to the "focal point" of the Palestinian affairs, he added.

On the scale of bilateral economic relations, Kuwaiti investments which rose by 120pct from 2012 to 2014 worth USD 4 billion, were addressed.

Both nations are committed to seeing this number rise for their mutual benefit as Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) is pondering entering the Spanish market and unlocking the "huge opportunities" on offer, the Kuwaiti minister revealed.

On the matter of regional terrorism, he said both sides discussed commitment to their responsibilities amid the international coalition against the Islamic State militant group, formerly known as ISIL.
