IPIC Empowers first of two Dubai World Cup Carnival meetings

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The International Petroleum Investment Company, IPIC, a Meydan Pillar Partner, pays the first of two Dubai World Cup Carnival visits to the Meydan racecourse tonight.

The action packed evening will include the middle rounds of the three-race Al Maktoum Challenge series, the traditional prep route to the Dubai World Cup. Also featured will be the Listed UAE 1000 Guineas. In the prep race, the UAE 1000 Guineas Trial, Godolphin's Local Time narrowly beat the H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum-owned Ad Idem by a short head.

Late last year, IPIC announced it would empower a second Dubai World Cup race, adding the $1m Dubai Kahayla Classic for Purebred Arabians to its existing $1m Al Quoz Sprint. As such, Meydan will play host to IPIC's second Dubai World Cup Carnival meeting on Saturday February 28th, highlighted by the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy.

Khadem Al Qubaisi, Managing Director of IPIC, said, "We are delighted to kick-off our second season as a Meydan Pillar Partner featuring such an impressive line-up of races. IPIC's unique sponsorship of both the Dubai Kahayla Classic and the Al Quoz Sprint in the prestigious Dubai World Cup on March 28th is a reflection of our commitment to sustaining the Emirates' strong history and tradition in horse racing. As such, the two Dubai World Cup Carnival events in February provide a perfect platform for Emirati talent to demonstrate its pedigree on a local and international scale." Meydan Board Member and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee, Malih Al Basti, said, "IPIC made history this season when they became the first company to empower two races on Dubai World Cup day. Now we welcome IPIC to Meydan Racecourse for the first of three visits this season. While a relative newcomer to the equestrian world, IPIC's support of horse sport, from endurance to flat racing, has had an immediate impact and we look forward to many more years of partnership."
