Kuwait presents two papers at GCC health minister talks


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Gulf Cooperation Council health ministers discussed several working papers, including two from Kuwait on the tobacco's effects on cancer and closer regional coordination.

One of those presented by Kuwait discussed tackling tobacco usage in light of its impact on the numbers of cancer patients in the Gulf, while the other proposed standards and guidelines for cooperation between the region's healthcare unions.

Both documents were presented at the event by the Ministry of Health Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs Dr. Qais Al-Dowairi.

Also present was World Health Organisation Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Ala Alwan, who told reporters that developing healthcare efficiency, staff and performance indexes was at the forefront of the talks.

The WHO official also indicated the presence of several challenges, including tackling non-communicable and communicable diseases, and chronic ailments such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
