Recent Study Czech Republic Autos Report Q1 2015

(MENAFNEditorial)

Passenger car sales in the Czech Republic in 11M14 came in at 175626 units an increase of 16.9% year-on-year (y-o-y). Export-led manufacturing growth has been strong throughout the year which has increased private consumption and the number of car purchases. BMI predicts a slowdown in sales growth in 2015 due to weaker emerging market demand and a weak eurozone recovery slowing export growth. We expect total passenger sales to come in at 189940 units in 2014 an increase of 12% y-o-y.

According to the Czech Automotive Association total auto exports climbed 8.2% y-o-y in 10M14. An improvement in the sentiment towards big ticket purchases such as autos coupled with low base effects from declines in the same period of 2013 has driven the strong growth seen in the market over the year to date. Yet the export-led recovery is set to continue slowing down in Q4 2014 and into H1 2015 on the back of slowing growth in emerging markets especially China and Russia and a weak recovery in the eurozone. BMI believes this will temper private consumption levels in the second half of the year and we expect to see a moderation in growth in autos sales in H115. For 2015 we expect overall auto sales to grow by 4.0% y-o-y.

Total car production came in at 105mn units in 10M14 an 11.8% y-o-y increase. Our total vehicle production forecast for 2014 has been revised downward to growth of 10.9% from 14.9% previously. This is largely owing to a downward revision in our light vehicle production outlook to growth of 10.9%% as our heavy truck production forecast has been revised upward to just 5.0% growth. A recovery in the country's main export markets of Western Europe coupled with investment in new models has improved the sector's production prospects. However we remain more cautious for 2015 with total vehicle production growth of 6.9% forecast as Europe's regional recovery is already showing signs of losing steam especially in major markets such as Germany and France.
