Back in January it was reported that 2014 saw an enormous rise in pedestrian accidents – and the highest number of pedestrian fatalities in nearly 20 years.

According to another recent report from the Georgia Department of Transportation improvement projects on the road that have been progressing too slowly also contribute to this death count.
Logically when construction causes light signals to be out of working order pedestrians have to use their own (sometimes incorrect) judgment on when to step into the street. It also gets in the way of the pedestrian’s path by tearing up sidewalks and forcing them to walk in undesignated potentially hazardous zones.
On roads that are found to be particularly dangerous to walk on such as the busy intersection of Stevens Creek and Washington road in Augusta new traffic signals are being talked about. These signals are intended to warn drivers about pedestrians but before they are implemented a study will be done on the area.
