Cop sacked, jailed for soliciting sex as bribe from runaway maid

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Court of First Instance ordered the sacking of a police sergeant from his post and sentenced him to five years in prison on Tuesday for soliciting and having sex with a runaway maid in return for not taking her into custody.

The 38-year-old Emirati cop, identified as Y.T., was caught by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers shortly after he had allegedly solicited and had sex with a runaway Filipina maid. He had earlier stopped the maid, identified as J.C and aged 32, in the Dubai Silicon Oasis and learnt that she had absconded from her sponsor. He got in contact with her later and agreed to have sex with her in return for covering up her crime.

Y.T. was convicted of the charges of soliciting sex and accepting it as a bribe in his capacity as a public officer while J.C was sentenced to three years in prison, to be followed by deportation, for bribing the officer.

Since both had been convicted by the Court of Misdemeanours of having consensual sex, the jail term of Y.T was reduced by three months and that of J.C. by one month.

A lieutenant from the CID said the pair was arrested in the parking lot of a college complex on May 25 last year. "We received many tipoffs that Y.T, who was a patrol police sergeant and assigned in that area, was stopping illegal women residents and blackmailing them into having sex with him... It was about 11.45pm when Y.T. was about to exit the main gate so we intercepted him. When I introduced myself as a lieutenant, he became tense," the officer told the prosecutor.

When the officer asked Y.T. about the reason he was there in that late hour, he became even more nervous. "He denied he had anybody in his company. However, J.C, stepped off his car shortly later. She was hiding in the back seat."

Y.T then willingly admitted that he took J.C inside the parking lot to have sex with her. Y.T told the lieutenant that he temporally switched his sports car with an Indian friend's car which has tinted windows.
