UN Security Council Strongly Condemns Boko Haram Attacks

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) The U.N. Security Council Tuesday strongly condemned the escalation of Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria and Cameroon.
The 15-member council extended their condolences and sympathies to the families of those killed and injured, and to the people and government of Nigeria and Chad.
Council members reiterated in a statement their deep concern that the activities of Boko Haram are undermining the peace and stability of the West and Central African region.
The council urged the region to boost regional military operations and coordination to more effectively and immediately combat Boko Haram.
The Security Council reaffirmed that terrorism constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that any such acts are criminal and unjustifiable.
The council also reminded countries that they must ensure that measures taken to combat terrorism comply with all their obligations under international law, in particular international human rights, refugee, and humanitarian law.
